Merriam-Webster defines a vignette in two ways:

a: a short descriptive literary sketch
b: a brief incident or scene (as in a play or movie)

Sketches and scenes are apt descriptions of what I’m presenting on this page. I’m developing a larger piece concentrated on themes of memory, nostalgia, and identity. And my vignettes are potential parts of that greater whole. They’re all unpublished and quite likely still works in progress. I’m trying to figure out what belongs in the project and what doesn’t. Posting vignettes in this public space help me follow through with writing them, and ensures regular momentum on the project.
